Guided fynbos walk and gourmet picnic

Our resident guide Karen Eichholz is not only a qualified horticulturist with almost 30 years experience, but she has also completed her Field Guide and Marine guide courses recently. She is a birder of note – there is not a bird or bird call in this area (and most of South Africa for that matter), that she does not know.

She was our farm manager for eight years, and lived in the area a further 8 years, in between working in the Uitenhage area as well as New Zealand for a year.  She is fully bilingual.

Amanda and Martin will be your hosts, welcoming you at the picnic with cold drinks and sumptuous food. Amanda has been in the industry for 20 years, doing all guest entertaining and cooking and Martin joined her recently from Pretoria, he is an artist and the general “builder, plan maker, decorator and handy man”.

An easy, level walk on the property (270 hectares) with plenty of indigenous plant species and Fynbos, bird life, insects and spectacular views. If you lucky you might even see small mammals like  caracal and bush buck.

Don’t forget your complimentary bottle of personalised, home-made rose!

Handy info:

  • The time when the walk and picnic takes place is flexible – must be during the day, the start can be between 9am and 2pm.

  • Bring your own drinks, we will keep them cold and serve them to you at no extra cost.

  • If the weather is  so rainy/bad that you cannot do the walk, we will go ahead with the picnic  and give you discount for the walk, as we have the option to move indoors to the Fynbosskerm with fireplace if needed!

  • Always bring something warm to wear, as well as hats, water, sunglasses, sunscreen, binoculars and cameras.

  • The walk is mostly level. If you would like to do a more strenuous walk down to the Bitou river for instance (going through fynbos and then into the indigenous forest), the duration will be an hour longer and the cost will be R50pp more.

  • Menus can be changed if the whole party are vegetarians.
